On Behalf of | Mar 26, 2014 | Tampa Low Testosterone

Two recent studies have indicated that testosterone replacement therapy may increase the risk of heart attacks and stroke in men receiving the treatment. In late 2013 the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) published a study in which more than 8,000 male veterans with low testosterone were studied. The researchers compared the risk of cardiovascular illness for those who received testosterone supplements with the men who did not receive the supplements, and found that those who used supplements were 29% more likely to have a heart attack or a stroke after three years. Then a follow-up study showed that certain men over the age of 65 tripled their risk of some cardiac events when using testosterone therapy. The FDA announced that due to the results of these two studies that they are now researching the many potential dangerous side effects associated with testosterone replacement therapy (TRT). It is not known how the FDA will respond to these studies.
