Gulf Coast Communities File BP Oil Spill Claim

Four Pinellas County beach communities recently file a BP oil spill claim totaling $12 million in damages from BP for lost tax revenue and costs associated with the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion in 2010.

Communities filing the claim include St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island, Madeira Beach and Indian Rocks Beach.  All are seeking damages based upon lost tourism revenue, but none of the cities actually had oil from the BP oil spill reach their shores.  Additional beach communities also lost tourism dollars, but they felt that filing a claim would either be too difficult or too time-consuming.  The prime concern for most communities was simply that they did not feel tourism dollars had been lost in the 85 days that oil spewed into the Gulf of Mexico.

A study conducted by the Pinellas Convention Visitors Bureau, was able to debunk the belief that the business community suffered minimal losses and instead put the total lost at close to $87 million in lost revenue.  When matched with information regarding lost revenue from each city, pursuing a BP oil spill claim was the easy and correct decision for each of the four communities.

Keep in mind that individuals, businesses and communities were adversely affected by the BP oil spill and it is in your best interest to have a Tampa BP oil spill attorney handle your claim.  You can reach our office by calling 813-902-3925.
