BP Oil Spill Killing Dolphins in Gulf of Mexico

On Behalf of | Jan 2, 2014 | BP Oil Spill Information

A study backed by the federal government indicates that dolphins in the area hardest hit by the BP oil spill in 2010 are suffering from lung diseases and other health abnormalities. The health problems are all consistent with toxic exposure to large amount of oil. The paper makes strong connections between the date of the BP oil spill and the spike in dolphin deaths, which occurred after the spill in the Gulf of Mexico. “It is related to the oil,” said Lori Schwake, lead author of the study and a wildlife epidemiologist at the National Atmospheric Administration. The study was released the same day a federal jury convicted an engineer who worked for BP in 2010 of destroying key evidence about the BP oil spill.
