Complications from Xarelto

stroke caused by XareltoXarelto is a Factor Xa inhibitor that was initially released to combat deep vein thrombosis (DVT) which can lead to a pulmonary embolism when a hip or knee joint is replaced. Unlike the tailored dosage of a drug Warfarin, Xarelto is designed to be given to patients in a one size fits all dose. A common adverse reaction to Xarelto includes uncontrollable bleeding, which is problematic because the anticoagulant effect of the drug is not easy to monitor or reverse. Less dangerous side effects include itching, fainting, muscle pain, muscle spasms and pain in the arms or legs.

A comprehensive list of all documented potential Xarelto side effects is provided below. This list is by no means complete, and additional side effects will be posted as they are made public. It is always a positive idea to contact a medical professional for advice if you are experiencing any side effects from a medication.

  • Easy bruising
  • Blood in the urine

  • Paralysis in one or more extremities
  • Muscle numbness, weakness or tingling
  • Bleeding from the mouth, nose or rectum
  • Coughing up blood that looks like coffee grounds
